EXXARO RECOURCES' TSHIKONDENI MINE
MACTRANSCO is the sole transport service provider for Tshikondeni Coal Mine owned by Exxaro Resources and has been responsible for the transport of the run-of-mine and final product, as well as the private siding since 1982. The service we deliver to Tshikondeni mine can be divided into three key areas of responsibility, namely;
RUN-OF-MINE
Specially designed trailers are used to transport unprocessed coal from the outer shafts to the main plant. These vehicles operate 24 hours a day, 6 days per week and deliver on average 500 000 tons per annum, this provides a constant flow of raw coal enabling the plant to operate 24 hours a day uninterruptedly.
TRANSPORT OF FINAL PRODUCT
Using our own front-end loader, the final product is loaded onto our trucks and transported to Musina, which is situated 140km west of Tshikondeni mine. These trucks also operate 24 hours a day, 6 days per week and travel approximately 3.7 million kilometers per annum. The coal is then off-loaded at our private siding and stockpiled, ensuring a minimum buffer of 10 000 tons at all times.
PRIVATE SIDING
The final product is loaded onto Spoornet block trains using two of our front-end loaders. During the loading process, samples are taken of the coal and a moisture analysis is done by our weighbridge controller. Each train consists of 40 wagons and is weighed using an in-motion weighbridge installed on our siding, before it leaves for Mittal Steel in Vanderbijlpark were it is used in the steel manufacturing process.
